Sian Quinn

Since I was a child, I have always taken photographs that capture memories throughout my childhood, moments that have defined me. Assembling these into albums, creating an outline of my life which tells a story of who I am. Storytelling can be reflected throughout most of my work, allowing to capture the raw emotion of the model’s expression. Some of my images have been inspired by photographers and other artists. I naturally gravitate towards using female models, this has become a common theme throughout all my portraits and fashion photographs. As a young woman in society, I have a strong interest in how women are represented in photography; I have noticed that in most cases women are often stereotyped with how they are being portrayed. For example, applying to the male gaze. I like to have female models as I then represent them in a new way. I studied media at GCSE level, then decided to do a BTEC in Photography, however my passion for the subject is rooted way deeper. I describe my photography as creative flexibility, a mixture of genres and overall enjoyment. Creating work that expresses happiness is what is most important, whether that is when creating or viewing my work, I try my best at the work I create and I hope that is shown in my photographs.
